FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Kara June won the Cal Poly Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, making it the third meet she's won this season. June also took first place at the Stanislaus and San Francisco State Invitationals on Sept. 6 and Oct. 4, respectively.
June won the 5K race with a time of 17:42, 36 seconds faster than her previous 5K mark this season.
Fresno State took fifth in team placing with 122 points. UC Irvine won the invitational with a low score of 48. Also finishing ahead of the Bulldogs was the club team See Jane Run, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
Sophomore Andrea Buckner crossed the finish line next for the 'Dogs, taking 23rd overall in 19:06. She improved her 5K time by nearly one minute. Buckner has emerged as one of the team's top runners, finishing in the top-3 on the team in four of five meets.
Junior Jennifer Tyler also knocked 59 seconds off her previous season-best time while finishing third on the team and 29th overall.
Fresno State's fourth and fifth runners, Courtney Stewart and Nicolin Neal, came in 33rd and 36th, respectively.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the WAC Championships in Belmont, Calif., on Nov. 1.
