FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) won the San Francisco State Invitational on Saturday while leading the Fresno State cross country team to a second place finish.
June ran the 6K race in 21:30, knocking another 11 seconds off her season-best time. A month ago she shaved five seconds off her previous personal record at the Stanislaus Invitational.
Fresno State finished behind San Jose State in team scoring. The Spartans had a low score of 44 while the Bulldogs totaled 64. Cal State Dominquez Hills took third place out of 11 teams.
The Bulldogs' scoring runners finish first, 11th, 13th, 18th and 21st out of 83 runners.
Stacy Aurit (Union City, Calif.), Andrea Buckner (Anaheim, Calif.) and Courtney Stewart (Castro Valley, Calif.) all set new season-best times at the meet.
Aurit took second on the team, 11th overall, with a time of 23:17, knocking 33 seconds off her record. Buckner crossed the finish line in 23:24, 25 seconds faster than her previous best-mark.
Stewart, finished in the top-four on the team for the first time this season. Her 23:50 6K time took five seconds off her season-best.
Fresno State's next meet is the Cal Poly Invitational on Oct. 18. It's their last meet before the WAC Championships on Nov. 1.
