FRESNO, Calif.- Junior Veronica Mack (Phoenix, Ariz.) led four Bulldogs in double figures with 20 points and Fresno State shot 58.1-percent overall in a 90-74 victory over Fresno Pacific in an exhibition contest on Monday night at Save Mart Center.
The Bulldogs outscored the Sunbirds 46-41 in the second half and made 19 of 28 (67.9-percent) from the field. Senior Chanie Sutherland (Odessa, Texas) was a factor down the stretch, connecting on all four shot attempts for nine points in the second period.
Sophomore Lauren Selmon (Norman, Okla.) added 11 points on 5-10 shooting, while sophomore Nikki Wilson (Chicago, Ill.) and junior Aritta Lane (Aiea, Hawaii) chipped in with 10 apiece. Lane led the Bulldogs with nine boards.
Fresno Pacific was down by double figures on multiple occasions, but continually battled its way back in the game. A layup by Lane gave the Bulldogs a 33-23 lead with six minutes left in the first period, and freshman Brittani Green (Arlington, Texas) gave the 'Dogs an 11-point edge at halftime.
After intermission, the Sunbirds closed to within 48-46 at the 14:49 mark when Jane Gillespie knocked down a jumper. Gillespie led Fresno Pacific with 21 points on the evening.
However, the Bulldogs responded with an 8-0 run capped by a steal from Jasmine Plummer (Natomas, Calif.) to go up 56-46. The Sunbirds then answered with an 11-4 run to close the gap to 60-57 but that would be as close as it would get.
Fresno State went up by as many as 11 points at 77-66 with 3:59 to go after a jumper by Sutherland.
The Bulldogs open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 21 at Washington State at 7 p.m.
