BOISE, Idaho - Renaldo Major scored a career-high 18 points and helped key a late run as Fresno State defeated Boise State 59-52 at the BSU Pavilion on Saturday night.
Major got the Bulldogs' offense untracked with 5:54 to go when he nailed a three-pointer to put Fresno State up 42-38. That began a 10-2 run over the next two minutes that saw a one-point game become a 49-40 Bulldog advantage, the largest of the night by either team.
Hiram Fuller added his fifth double-double of the season by scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
With the win, Fresno State improved to 17-4 (10-2 Western Athletic Conference) and remained in first place, 1.5 games ahead of Nevada, which won at UTEP 71-64.
"We really grinded this one out," said head coach Ray Lopes. "We really had to play hard just to get anything going offensively. But we had some guys step up and make some big plays. This was a big one for us to get on the road."
Neither team shot well in the game. Fresno State hit just 39 percent from the floor while Boise State finished at 32 percent, including 2-of-23 from beyond the arc.
Jason Ellis led the Broncos (10-11, 4-7) with 14 points.
The Bulldogs held a big advantage on the boards, outrebounding BSU 46-27.
The contest was a defensively battle from the get-go. Neither team led by more than five in the first half. Fresno State led at the intermission 23-22 and helped itself by making 13-of-15 free throws, including 8-of-8 in the final minute.
Fresno State returns home Thursday for a game against Louisiana Tech (9-9, 6-5), which will enter Selland Arena riding a four-game winning streak.
