FULLERTON, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team was looking to avenge an earlier loss to No. 13 DePaul in its own Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic from a week ago but the result was eerily the same as the Blue Demons won 3-2, again, and the game-winning hit came from local product Lindsay Chouinard, again.
With all the runs scored on a home run this morning, Fresno State and DePaul both had two home runs a piece.
Dropping to 7-13 on the year, Fresno State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when sophomore All-America pitcher Jamie Southern hit a one-out solo shot to dead center.
DePaul, which improved to 11-3, used a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth with two outs as Saskia Roberson hit a two-run home run to right center to give the Blue Demons a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth with two outs, Southern tied the score at 2-2 when she hit her second home run on the day and on the year to left center.
In the bottom of the seventh, Chouinard, who started the game as the designated player before becoming a relief pitcher in the top of the seventh, recorded the game-winning hit with a walk-off home run to left field.
The Bulldogs resume play in the Kia Klassic this afternoon when they meet Notre Dame at 3:00 p.m.
