Softball's Kia Klassic Ends in Complete Wash Out

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Kia Klassic, hosted by CS Fullerton, was washed out for the day due to rain and now, has been cancelled in its entirety due to rain for the rest of the weekend.
The Fresno State softball team, which was scheduled to play No. 6 Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. today, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Kia Klassic with a 2-2 record.
Other teams that reached the quarterfinals, before the rain washed out the tournament, were No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 2 Arizona and No. 3 Nebraska.
The other teams looking to advance to the quarterfinals after morning play had No. 4 Texas playing No. 13 DePaul, Long Beach State vs. CS Northridge, No. 5 Washington vs. Notre Dame and No. 12 Arizona State vs. No. 16 Florida State.
Instead, the Bulldogs will be back in action next Tuesday, March 18, when they host Long Island University at 6:00 p.m.

At the Kia Klassic, freshman third baseman Angelina Diaz and sophomore pitcher/utility Jamie Southern were hot at the plate.
Diaz hit .556 (5-9) with two runs, two walks, two sacrifices and a RBI. Southern hit .385 (5-13) with four runs, four home runs, eight RBI and 17 total bases for a 1.308 slugging percentage.
In the circle, freshman right-hander Laura Ferreira went 1-0 as she picked up a win in relief against No. 3 Nebraska. Ferreira gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out three in 4.0 innings.
