Fresno State volleyball had two representatives on the 2003 Western Athletic Conference Preseason Volleyball Team in senior middle blocker Carrie Hartt (Manteca, Calif.) and junior outside hitter Kristen Fenton (Marysville, Mich.).
Both first team all-WAC picks as well as WAC Volleyball Championship all-tournament selections in 2002, Hartt and Fenton make their first appearance on the WAC's preseason team, as voted by the league coaches.
Hartt and Fenton also become the program's fifth and sixth preseason all-WAC selection as the league started honoring preseason picks two years ago.
In her first year as a full-time starter last fall, Hartt had a remarkable season in the middle for the Bulldogs. Finishing the 2002 season ranked in three Top Five single-season school records, including the second most number of blocks assists in a year (118), Hartt returns as the WAC's top blocker after averaging 1.36 blocks per game in overall play and 1.47 blocks per game in conference action.
Averaging nearly 2.0 blocks per game in her last 19 matches, she was nationally-ranked in blocks per game last season while returning as one of the team's top kill leader after totaling 349 (3.36 kpg) as a junior.
As a sophomore, Fenton also had a breakout year. Garnering First Team AVCA All-West Region accolades, she returns as the Bulldogs' top all-around player after tallying 403 kills (3.84 kpg), 36 service aces, 292 digs (2.78 dpg) and 66 total blocks (0.63 bpg).
Setting the program's seventh-best hitting performance in a season (.301), Fenton wrapped up 2002 with a streak of 16 double-figure kill matches and five double-doubles while hitting .303 in her last 20 matches. A member of the 500 club (500 career kills and digs), she currently ranks No. 10 in career hitting percentage (.261) at Fresno State.
