Jovanovic Advances to Semifinals of Women's Tennis Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Vlatka Jovanovic upset teammate and second-seeded Lucia Tallo to advance to the semifinals of the ninth annual Bulldog Classic, being played this weekend at the Wathen Tennis Center.
Jovanovic, seeded sixth, is the lone Fresno State player remaining in the singles bracket. She defeated Tallo 6-3, 6-2 after going three sets to defeat Chelsy Thompson of Cal Poly in her round of 16 match early Saturday. Jovanovic pulled that contest out 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
One other Bulldog advanced as far as the quarterfinals, that being Lucia Sainz, who bowed out to No. 4-seed Nicole Havlicek of California 6-3, 6-2.
Seventh-seeded Kathrin Winterhalter was defeated in the round of 16 by fifth-seeded Anna Erikson of Sacramento State 6-1, 6-2.
Sunday's semifinal matchups are Erikson vs. Havlicek and Cal's Jody Scheldt, the No. 3 seed, against Jovanovic. The matches begin at 8 a.m. with the finals following at 11 a.m.
