Swimming Falls to Oregon State, 201-59

FRESNO, Calif. - On the strength of wins in all 14 of the meet's events, Oregon State defeated Fresno State 201-59 Saturday at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex.
The Beavers improved their overall record to 4-4 and registered their fourth straight victory over Fresno State who dropped to 2-5 on the season.
OSU All-American Birte Steven came in first in all three of her individual events for the afternoon. Steven paced the field in the 1000 free (10:16.49), 100 breast (1:04.07) and 100 free (53.65). She was also the third leg on the winning 400 free relay team. The Beavers touched the wall first in the 400-medley relay with a time of 4:05.09 to sweep the meet's two relay events. Kristin Huston matched Steven with three individual victories in the 100 back (58.75), 50 free (24.21) and 100 fly (58.30). Huston was the second leg of the first place 400 free relay team.
Sandy Hong and Leah Schaab were also multiple event winners for the Beavers. Hong claimed the top spot in the 200 (1:55.44) and 500 free (5:07.54) and Schaab finished first in the 200 fly (2:11.10) and 400 IM (4:33.80).
Junior Melissa Johnson led the Bulldogs with three second place finishes in the 200 free (1:55.64), 50 free (25.26) and 100 free (53.82). Fresno State tallied eight top-three finishes for the meet.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday when they travel to Los Angels for a tri-meet against Cal Poly and Loyola Marymount. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
