Equestrian Earns High Point Status At Home Show

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State continued its winning streak Nov. 20 when both the English and Western teams earned high point accolades at their first home show of the season. The Bulldogs garnered a combined 12 first-place finishes for both competitions.
In the Western division, senior Beth Knapp championed Open Western Horsemanship and senior Kayla Merritt and junior Amy Simmons won their respective divisions in Novice Western Horsemanship. Senior Maggie Clancy and sophomore Sierra Daniels captured titles in both sections of Intermediate Western Horsemanship B.
Junior Stacey Jo McCalmont was first in Intermediate Western Horsemanship A and junior Brenna Burris won the Reining class.
The English competition totaled five firsts, with sophomores Morgan McDonald and Kasey MacFarlane claiming first in Open Equitation on the Flat and Novice Equitation on the Flat, respectively. Sophomore Jackie Alewyn earned the title in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter and McCalmont was first in Beginning Walk-Trot-Canter. Sophomore Ashley Peterson won the Walk-Trot Equitation on the Flat competition.
Fresno State has completed its fall schedule and will return to action Jan. 8, 2005, when it competes in a double English show hosted by UC Davis.
