Senior Jim Medeiros has been named the Toyota/www.gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 21. He is the second wrestler to be awarded this honor during the 2004-05 season. Medeiros was honored due to his performance in helping the Bulldogs to a third place finish at the Reno Tournament of Champions, which featured many top programs from around the nation, including Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Oregon, Cal Poly and Stanford. The 157-pound Medeiros went 5-1 in the tournament and finished in third place, tying him with Chris Gifford for the highest finish by a Bulldog wrestler. Medeiros' only loss was to Brian Stith of Arizona State, dropping a close 3-2 decision in the semifinals. Medeiros defeated Brian Busby of Cal State Bakersfield 12-6 and Rich Vigorito 2-0 to finish in third place. Medeiros is now 10-4 on the year and 1-0 in dual matches. He is also ranked 13th in the latest poll from Wrestling International Newsmagazine. Bulldog Wrestling makes its home debut on Wednesday against Oklahoma State. The event will be held at the North Gym and begins at 7 p.m. |
