Sophomore All-America shortstop Christina Clark (Santa Ana, Calif.) has been honored for the second time this season as the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Clark, who receives the award for the fifth time in her Bulldog career, helped Fresno State to a 5-2 record last week, including two Top 25 wins with victories over No. 7 Oklahoma and No. 13 Pacific.
In the home doubleheader sweep over Long Island, Clark batted .571 (4-7) with three runs, a walk, a home run, four RBI and seven total bases for a 1.000 slugging percentage. She also hit a walk-off three-run home run in the nightcap versus the Blackbirds to end the game in five innings.
At the Kia Klassic, Clark collected the game-winning hit in the top of the seventh against No. 7 Oklahoma in pool play to lift the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory. She then went on to hit her second career grand slam against No. 13 Pacific with a walk-off shot in the bottom of the fifth for the Bulldogs seventh mercy run-rule victory of the year.
With 11 home runs on the season, Clark has moved into a tie for seventh place all-time in WAC history as she shares the spot with Utah's Deb DiMeglio (1993-94). As the fifth Bulldog to hit at least 10 home runs in more than one season, she is currently the league's top home run hitter.
In addition, as the second Bulldog to post back-to-back 10-home run seasons, Clark has 26 career home runs (No. 4 all-time at Fresno State) and is one of just 12 WAC players overall to collect 20 or more career long balls.
After having her 13-game hit streak halted by San Diego State on March 11, Clark has responded by hitting safely in 10 of her last 12 games. In this span, she is batting .400 (14-35) with nine runs, one double, four home runs, eight walks (three intentional), two hit by pitch, 14 RBI and 27 total bases for a .771 slugging percentage
