FRESNO, Calif. - Shantay Legans scored a career-high 30 points and Dreike Bouldin added 18 points and 10 rebounds as Fresno State awakened a slumbering offense for an 81-76 victory over San Jose State on Thursday night at the Save Mart Center.
Six of Bouldin's 18 came in a 13-0 Fresno State run that sealed the game for the Bulldogs (13-14, 9-8 WAC), who snapped a four-game home losing streak.
Marquin Chandler had a career-high 27 points for San Jose State (6-21, 1-16), which lost for the 18th time in the last 19 games.
With the Spartans ahead 52-48 with 9:46 to play, Mustafa Al-Sayyad scored a layup that began Fresno State's surge. It ended with a Bouldin three-pointer that gave the Bulldogs a 61-52 edge with 6:33 to play.
SJSU got no closer until the very end of the game when the outcome had already been decided.
The game marked a breakout performance for the Bulldog offense, which scored a season-high number of points. Fresno State shot 55.6 percent in the game and 68.2 percent in the second half, in which the Bulldogs had 51 points.
Neither team entered the contest with many credentials on offense. The Bulldogs ranked ninth in the WAC in scoring average at 62.2 while the Spartans were dead last at 61.8. Fresno State had scored as many as 70 points in regulation time in just one conference game until tonight.
Both teams played to a first half tie at 30-30. There were 13 lead changes and six ties in the contest.
In addition to the good nights by Legans and Bouldin, Al-Sayyad helped pace Fresno State with 11 points and nine rebounds. Francis Koffi came off the bench for 10.
