English Equestrian Team Takes First at Regional Finals

Twin Falls, Idaho - The Fresno State English equestrian team finished in first place with 42 points at the Zone 8 Regional Finals at the College of Southern Idaho today. By winning the title, the Bulldogs will be able to send a team of riders to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the national competition on April 30.
The University of Montana finished in second place with 37 points, Oregon State placed third with 34 points and the University of San Diego finished fourth out of the four teams with 33 points.
Senior Amanda Hancock (intermediate fences), senior Michelle Tonello (open flat), sophomore Stacey McCalmont (beginning walk trot) and sophomore Kathryn Flanigan (novice flat) all racked up first place finishes to catapult the 'Dogs into first place.
In the individual Western competition, five riders in six classes qualified for the individual competition at nationals by qualifying. Junior Taylor Mason (open rail and open reining), senior Laine Hendricks (open rail), senior Shauna Erickson and Beth Knapp (advanced rail) and senior Tiffany Washington (intermediate rail) will all head to Murfreesboro on April 30 with the English squad.
The regional finals will continue tomorrow with the Western team competition and the English individual competition.
