Freshman goalkeeper Debra Marie Lambert (Modesto, Calif.) has been named gobulldogs.com athlete of the week for Aug. 31. The honor is the first of Lambert's career. With starter Jeannette Paine unavailable to play in the Bulldog's first two games of the year, Lambert quickly made her collegiate debut and was tested early and often in two appearances. Despite suffering back-to-back losses to begin the year, Lambert provided Fresno State with some impressive and aggressive play between the posts. Against Cal State Fullerton in her first collegiate start, Lambert made 12 total saves on the afternoon- tying a school record in the process. Former Bulldog keeper Jennifer Johnstone had recorded 12 saves on three other occasions, most recently against UTEP on Nov. 4, 1998. Lambert also made her collegiate debut two days earlier at UC Riverside, playing the entire second half while notching four saves. Fresno State will travel to a neutral site later this weekend to play two East Coast opponents for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs will be making an appearance in the Oregon State University Nike Invitational, hooking up with 2003 NCAA Tournament participant and Southern Conference champion UNC Greensboro on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round. Fresno State's second draw in the tourney is New Hampshire, a club the Bulldogs will face on Sunday at 11 a.m.
