Volleyball Takes Second in Own Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs volleyball team dropped a four-game decision to Oral Roberts in the championship match as the Golden Eagles soared to a 30-25, 30-23, 25-30 and 30-27 victory to claim the 18th Fresno State Volleyball Invitational title.
Fresno State (7-4) captured the runner-up title for the fifth time in tournament history while Oral Roberts (5-7) made their second appearance in the school's invitational and claimed its first crown.
The Bulldogs were led offensively by freshman outside hitter Christianna Reneau, who had 15 kills, 13 digs and two blocks.
Senior middle blocker Tiffany Bishop and senior outside hitter Kristen Fenton also tallied double-figure kills for the 'Dogs. Bishop recorded 13 kills, nine digs and had a team-high five blocks while Fenton chipped in 12 kills, nine digs and two blocks.
Freshman setter Ilima Sam Fong notched her second straight double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs for Fresno State. Freshman libero Yuko Mori posted a team-best 21 digs.
Oral Roberts was led by Orieta Zuzic, who had a match-high 23 kills, 10 digs and a match-best seven blocks. Maja Devic contributed 14 kills, eight digs and four blocks while Becky Dreher collected a match-high 34 digs for ORU.
The loss snapped the Bulldogs three-match win streak as Fresno State has won four of its last six.
The 'Dogs open Western Athletic Conference play next week at Rice (Sept. 23) and Tulsa (Sept. 25) before hosting No. 7 Hawai'i on Sept. 30 at the Save Mart Center.
