Senior outside hitter Kristen Fenton was named gobulldogs.com's Athlete of the Week for her performances against Rice and Tulsa. Showcasing her form from a year ago, Fenton opened WAC play in style as she led the Bulldogs to a 1-1 road record. The 2004 WAC Preseason Player of the Year led the team in hitting (.327), blocking (10), blocks per game (1.43) and points (49.0) while sharing team high honors in kills (40) and kills per game (5.71) last weekend. Also finishing fourth on the team in total digs (23, 3.29 dpg), Fenton set three more rally scoring school records to move her total to six rally scoring records set thus far this season as she established new records in kills (30), attempts (69) and points (35.5) for a four-game match versus Tulsa on Sept. 25. Earlier in the month she set the mark for kills (24), total attempts (65) and points (24.5) for a three-game match against Western Illinois on Sept. 3. In the WAC opener against Rice, she was one of two Bulldogs who had a double-figure kill match after tallying 10 kills, seven digs while sharing match-high honors in blocks (5). Against Tulsa, Fenton pounded out a match-high 30 kills and hit .362 (30-5-69) while recording five assists, two service aces, 16 digs and a team-best five blocks. With double-digit kill marks in 12 of 13 matches to date, Fenton also posted her ninth double-double of the season and 44th of career against the Golden Hurricane. Nationally-ranked in kills per game in 18 of the last 19 weeks, Fenton has collected double-figure kills in 56 of her last 57 matches and has totaled 1,042 kills in 215 games for an average of 4.85 kills per game and 18.28 kills a match.
