| Senior Lucia Sainz has been named the Toyota/gobulldogs.com student-athlete of the week for Oct. 24. The honor is the third for the women's tennis team this year. Sainz and senior Winterhalter were named athletes of the week together for their performance at the ITA All-American and Winterhalter also earned the solo honor earlier this year. Last weekend, Sainz participated in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, advancing all the way to the quarterfinals. Most impressively, Sainz and Winterhalter dominated the doubles field to win the Northwest Regional Championship. In one of the biggest tournaments of the fall season, the Fresno State duo beat Stanford's Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey 8-5 on their home court for the title. Sainz and Winterhalter have been dominant throughout the fall. They are 15-1 in doubles play, losing narrowly to the Thompson twins of Notre Dame in the championship match of the ITA All-American. Now, the Bulldog tandem will head to Columbus, Ohio, in its quest to capture the ITA National Indoor Championship Nov. 4-6. Also nominated: Kortney Lewis (soccer), Garrett McIntyre (football) and Alison Pitton (volleyball).
