Junior guard Chantella Perera has been named the Toyota/www.gobulldogs.com student-athlete of the week for Dec. 12. The honor is the first for Perera and she is the second women's basketball player to win the honor this year (Paige Diggs- Nov. 22). In Fresno State's three victories last week, Perera scored a combined 46 points (14-32 from the field), was 12-23 from three-point territory and hauled in 12 rebounds. In a 56-50 win at San Diego on Dec. 5, Perera scored a game-high 21 points with five triples and grabbed nine boards. She followed that effort up with a 16-point performance in a 68-50 win over Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 9, connecting on 4-5 three-point tries. Finally, she was 3-6 from beyond the arc for nine points during a 67-50 triumph over UC Riverside on Dec. 10. Perera is averaging 13.7 ppg this year to go along with 3.6 rpg. She leads the Bulldogs in three-pointers with 15. Also nominated: Quinton Hosley (men's basketball) and Garrett Spooner (wrestling).
