FRESNO, Calif. - Dreike Bouldin scored 20 points off the bench on 6-of-11 shooting and added a key blocked shot in the final seconds as Fresno State held off Tulsa for a 71-69 Western Athletic Conference win on Wednesday night.Mustafa Al-Sayyad added eight points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven blocks for the Bulldogs (14-9, 8-6 WAC), who lost to Tulsa 68-65 in January.
Fresno State's win, coupled with Louisiana Tech's 73-70 loss at SMU, moved the Bulldogs into a tie for third with Tech in the league standings. Nevada leads the WAC with a 12-2 mark.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs led 37-26 at halftime, their biggest lead at the break since the fourth game of the year, but Tulsa opened up the second half with seven straight points to make it a four-point game.
The Golden Hurricane eventually tied it at 40 with 15 minutes 33 seconds remaining, capping a 14-3 run.
Fresno State jumped out to a 10-point lead less than five minutes later, but that margin collapsed in a hurry as a 3-pointer by Tulsa's Chris Wallace put the Hurricane ahead 60-58 with 7:53 to go.
The Bulldogs took the 71-69 lead with 23.2 seconds left. Fresno State's Ja'Vance Coleman, who finished with 11 points, missed two free throws with 10.6 seconds remaining, giving Tulsa another chance.
Tulsa's Brett McDade attempted a layup that was blocked by the Bulldogs' Mustafa Al-Sayyad. James got the rebound and put up a five-footer with two seconds left, but that was blocked by Bouldin.
Chris Wallace retrived Bouldin's block about 30 feet out, but his desperation heave was well off the mark.
Tulsa -- which went the final 4:13 without scoring -- was led by Jarius Glenn's 18 points and had five players score in double figures.
Donovan Morris added 14 points for the Bulldogs, connecting on 3 of 4 3-pointers. Bouldin was 3-of-7 on threes and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
The Bulldogs shot 45.1 percent from the floor compared to 39.4 percent by Tulsa.
The win also moved Fresno State to 7-2 in games decided by five points or less. Conversely, Tulsa is now a woeful 1-12 in games decided by eight points or less.
