SAN DIEGO - Battling the rain was one opponent the No. 21 Fresno State softball team could not beat as the Bulldogs had their final game of the 15th Annual Campbell/Cartier Tournament called this morning.
Looking to close out against Central Michigan at 11:00 a.m., the 'Dogs were ready to play until rain caused the first game of the day to be delayed then stopped twice in the first two innings alone. With standing water in the foul territory areas, an outfield that had been submerged with water yesterday that caused the tournament to be postponed a day and a rapidly depleting supply of turface, host San Diego State did everything it could to put on a tournament.
San Diego State called off the tournament in the fourth inning of the Notre Dame-Central Michigan contest.
Fresno State (1-1) will hope its road trip to Georgia next week will be drier when the Bulldogs participate in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, Feb. 25-27.
The 'Dogs will play Seton Hall, Texas State and No. 9 LSU in pool play before beginning bracket and championship play.
