SAN JOSE, Calif. - As Fresno State kicks off its spring season, the Bulldogs stand in first place after shooting a first-round 310 at the Bay Area Classic held at the par-72 Boulder Ridge Golf Club. Hawaii (318) and San Francisco (318) are currently tied for second.
Meggie Fagundes and Yumi Chung led the Bulldogs with first-round scores of 76 each, and are tied for fifth. Laura Luethke, two strokes behind at 78, is tied for ninth. Adrianna Chico and Holly Cornell posted rounds of 80 and 87 respectively, to stand in ties for 18th and 50th places. Playing as an individual, Tiffany Veerkamp (88) is in a tie for 55th.
"This is a tough course, especially under the windy weather conditions," head coach Angie Cates said. "Overall, we are doing pretty good as a team. If we can hang on to first place, it would be huge for us."
Fresno State continues play Tuesday starting at 8 a.m.
