No. 21 Fresno State Defeats Oklahoma State 4-3

FRESNO, Calif. - The 21st-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team opened play in the UNLV Invitational with a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma State on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs (2-2), the defending champion of the event, snapped a two-match losing streak with the victory in the second ever meeting between the two teams.
Fresno State moves into the semifinals, where it will play host and 48th-ranked UNLV on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rebels advanced to the semifinals with a 7-0 victory over Northern Arizona.
No. 15 Tulane will play No. 30 New Mexico in the other semifinal.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead right away by sweeping the doubles. At No. 1, the 49th-ranked tandem of Courtney Jantz and Lucia Sainz knocked off Jana Kubicikova and Iryna Tkachenko 8-6.
In singles, Fresno State picked up victories from Katharina Winterhalter at No. 2, Lucia Sainz at No. 3 and Jacqui Haskett at No. 5. All three won in straight sets, with Haskett's victory clinching the dual with two matches left on court.
Oklahoma State (1-5) led in both matches when Haskett won the clincher.
"It is just very nice to have a chance to play a match again," said head coach Simon Thibodeau about the Bulldogs, who recently have had two matches canceled due to rain. "We did some good things today, and we'll need to continue that because UNLV will be a very tough opponent for us."
Fresno State's next three matches will all come against top-40 ranked competition.
