DALLAS- Amy Parrish scored a game-high 22 points to lead three Bulldog players in double-figures as Fresno State recorded a 70-62 victory over SMU on Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum. The Bulldogs (13-7, 5-6 WAC), who were defeated by SMU 68-59 earlier this year at the Save Mart Center, returned the favor on the Mustang's home court. With 13 victories and eight regular season games to play, Fresno State has matched last year's win total.
Jasmine Plummer (12) and Tierre Wilson (11) also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, who shot 48.2-percent overall compared to a 35.7-percent clip from SMU (16-5, 7-4 WAC). The Bulldogs also held a 40-28 edge in the rebounding department, as five players grabbed at least five boards.
SMU's Janielle Dods scored 14 to lead three players in double-figures.
Fresno State led 29-27 at intermission, outscoring SMU in the paint 18-4. After Aritta Lane scored the first two points of the game, the Mustangs went on an 8-0 run. Fresno State responded with a 9-0 burst to take the lead at 11-8 and would stay in front until Katie Gross' three-pointer gave SMU a 15-13 lead.
However, the Bulldogs embarked on yet another run and grabbed an eight-point lead at 29-21 with 2:48 remaining following a jumper from Parrish. SMU scored the final six points of the first half.
Fresno State used an 11-4 scoring run to open the second half, going up 40-31 after a lay-up from Lane. SMU quickly made up some ground- mainly due to the three-point shooting of Katie Gross, who finished with four- and closed to within 48-47 at the 8:30 mark.
But the Bulldogs again took command and stretched their lead to double-digits twice under the two-minute mark.
Fresno State returns to the Save Mart Center next weekend for games against UTEP (Feb. 10) and Boise State (Feb. 12).
