FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team made it two wins in a row with a 5-2 victory over Syracuse on Thursday morning at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The victory gives the Bulldogs (6-5) their first winning streak of the season. Fresno State - which knocked off Princeton 7-0 yesterday - had alternated wins and loses in its last seven matches.
The Bulldogs were really never threatened on the day, which began with the team taking the doubles point while dropping a combined 11 games. At No. 1, the team of Courtney Jantz and Lucia Sainz made it eight in a row with an 8-3 win over Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki. Jantz and Sainz, ranked 22nd in the nation, are now 18-4 (8-2 dual) on the year.
In singles, the Bulldogs won at spots 2-5 in straight sets. Lucia Sainz, Courtney Jantz, Fadzai Masiyazi and Jacqui Haskett all cruised in leading Fresno State to a win in the first of a Thursday doubleheader.
The Bulldogs host SMU at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Wathen Tennis Center.
