FRESNO, Calif. - Kept off balanced throughout the night cap of the non-conference doubleheader against Connecticut, the No. 22/17 Fresno State softball team could not find any type of rhythm as the Bulldogs fell 1-0 to the Huskies.
Fresno State (10-4) could only muster five hits and it took a two-out pinch hit in the fifth inning from UConn's Kim Caster to earn the Huskies a split against the Bulldogs.
Freshman left hander Amanda Nesbitt allowed one run on four hits while striking out four as she suffered her first loss on the year to fall to 3-1 on the season.
Jessica Gurney improved to 2-1 after scattering five hits, walking one and fanning four to help Connecticut improve to 2-5 overall.
Freshman first baseman Kristin Sylvester had two of the Bulldogs' five hits after going 2-3. Christina Clark, Nichole Willis and Rachael Donaldson combined for the other three hits.
Fresno State continues its 14-game home stand on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12, when it hosts UC Santa Barbara at 5:00 p.m. and Saint Mary's at 1:00 p.m., respectively.
