After helping Fresno State to a runner-up finish in its own Bulldog Classic presented by Bingham Toyota, junior All-America shortstop Christina Clark (Santa, Ana, Calif.) garnered her first Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for the 2005 season. While Fresno State posted a 5-1 tournament record in its home debut, Clark batted .474 (9-16) with six runs, a double, a triple, two home runs, two walks, 1-1 in stolen bases, four RBI and 18 total bases for a .947 slugging percentage last week. With three multi-hit games in six games, she led the tournament field in batting, hits, total bases and slugging percentage while sharing top honors in runs and home runs. The pair of home runs moved her career total to 43. As Fresno State's career home run leader she sits just three shy of tying the WAC's career home run mark. In addition, she continues to move up the school's career annals. After the weekend, Clark moved up to No. 8 in career runs (131) as she surpassed Christa Yorke (130, 1991-94). She also broke into the school's top 10 in RBI (110), moving past Gena Strang (108, 1985-88). In the WAC's career record book, she makes her appearance in career runs as she now ranks No. 10 overall. Picking up her eighth WAC Player of the Week honor, Clark is currently hitting .463 (19-41) with 14 runs, eight RBI, two doubles, a triple, five home runs, four walks and 38 total bases and a .927 slugging percentage. No. 24/18 Fresno State (9-3) continues its 14-game home stand this week with a trio of doubleheaders. The Bulldogs host Connecticut on Wed., March 9, 6:00 p.m., UC Santa Barbara on Fri., March 11, 5:00 p.m., and Saint Mary's on Sat., March 12, 1:00 p.m.
