Bulldog Western Team Wins Zone Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Equestrian team rolled to another victory, winning the Zone Western Championship held at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Ridgefield, Ore.
It marked the second consecutive year Fresno State captured the Zone Championship. The Bulldog Western team will now advance to the IHSA national championships in Sunbury, Ohio, May 5-8.
The Bulldogs had three first place finishers. Jodie Stabbe won the Advanced Western Horsemanship, Sierra Daniels was first in Intermediate Western Horsemanship and Beth Knapp won the Open Western Horsemanship. Sara Barnes placed second in Open Reining, Kayla Merritt was second in Novice Western Horsemanship and Heather Billings was second in Beginning Western Horsemanship.
Fresno State has now won 12 of 14 Western shows this season and appears to be a favorite to win the national championship.
Two members of the English team competed in individual competition today. Leyla Mundy placed second on the Novice Equitation over Fences and Stacey McCalmont was fourth in Intermediate Walk Trot.
The English team competition will be held Sunday and the Bulldog Western riders will be competing for individual honors.
The Zone 8 championship show is hosted by four teams from Region 4 of the Zone, Oregon State, Seattle University, Oregon, Washington and Western Washington.
