No. 20/17 Softball Takes Series Against Tulsa

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 20/17 Fresno State softball team was efficient in its limited number of hits as the Bulldogs went on to post a 2-0 Western Athletic Conference victory over Tulsa.
Sweeping the series, the 'Dogs used a two-run fifth as junior All-America shortstop Christina Clark delivered with a two out two-run single down the left field line.
Senior All-America pitcher Jamie Southern threw another two-hit shutout against the Golden Hurricane. Improving to 19-3 on the year, she also struck out five as she notched her 12th shutout of the season.
In the NCAA recordbook, Southern has tallied 1,232 career strikeouts to rank No. 12 all-time while also recording her 72nd career shutout to rank No. 8 all-time in Division I history.
Tulsa starter Maren Genow dropped to 7-8 overall after allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three. With the loss, Tulsa is now 22-30 overall and 2-7 in the WAC.
In the fifth, senior third baseman Leticia Pacheco drew a walk. Freshman designated player Lindsay Milchovich followed with a single up the middle. While pinch runner Katrina Jacques came in to pinch run for Milchovich, freshman right fielder Twyla Coffman flied out to center for the first out but a productive out as Pacheco and Jacques each moved up a base. With runners on second and third, Clark hit a laser down the left field line to plate Pacheco and Jacques.
Fresno State (32-10, 8-1 WAC) is on the road the next two weeks. The Bulldogs travel to Louisiana Tech (April 29-30) and Nevada (May 6-7) for another set of three-game WAC contests.
