| Kayla Merritt claimed two titles at the IHSA National Championships on May 6, earning her Toyota/gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week honors. A senior, Merritt repeated as the national champion in the individual Intermediate Western Horsemanship class and then won the Novice Western Horsemanship event during the team competition. The Quartz Hill, Calif., native led the Bulldogs during the Western team competition. Because of her strong performance, Fresno State took an early lead in the event.
