Men's Golf Finishes 19th at NCAA West Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State (295-299-292 - 886) (+46) shot a final-round 292 to finish in 19th place at the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional. UNLV (281-277-288 - 846 at +6) came in first, New Mexico (284-284-281 - 849 at +9) came in second, and Washington (286-282-286 - 854 at +14) came in third.
Senior Ryan Carter (74-70-73) shot a third-round 73 for a 217 total and finished in a tie for 39th place at 7 over. Junior Ryan McDonald (73-73-72) notched a 218 total (+8) to finish in a tie for 49th. Junior Mark Modglin (74-78-74 - 226) (+16) tied for 97th. Junior Brian Kelley shot rounds of 74-81-73 for an 18-over 228, 107th-place finish. Junior Jon Rosa (75-78-76) came in 111th with a 19-over 229.
"I was proud of the way these guys battled," head coach Mike Watney said. "I'm sorry to be losing Ryan Carter next year, but for the rest of the team this was good experience."
Rob Grube of Stanford finished first individually with rounds of 69-70-65 - 204 (-6).
The top 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams are moving on to compete in the championship finals in Owings Mills, Md., June 1-4.
Fresno State has completed its season and returns to action in the fall.
