Jamie Southern was named the Toyota/gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for April 27-May 3 for her efforts last week against Louisiana Tech. In two starts against La Tech, Southern threw a pair of three-hit shutouts as the Lady Techsters managed a .111 batting average against. Not allowing a run for seven straight games as well as winning six straight in the circle, Southern posted a pair of shutout wins to make it four consecutive starts in which she has blanked the opponent. At the plate last week, she hit .400 (4-10) with two runs, two home runs, a walk, a sacrifice, three RBI and collected a team-high 10 total bases and slugging a team-high 1.000. Southern also cracked the WAC's career top 10 list in hits as well as she now has 243 to rank tenth all-time. In her last 13 appearances, she has gone 11-1 with seven shutouts, one save, five runs (two earned) with seven walks and 98 strikeouts in 75.0 innings for a 0.19 ERA. With a current streak of 36.1 scoreless innings that ranks No. 7 all-time in school history, Southern holds 10 career school records and all six WAC career marks.
