It's Conference Time!!!
G'Day fellow Bulldog fans, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed the New Year! We finished off 2005 in Lubbock, Texas. Unfortunately, we could not pull out a victory, but the experience of playing at Texas Tech was amazing. When we walked into the gym to practice the night before the game, you could just feel the history and tradition that had been established there. It gave me a chill and reminded me of what we are working for here at Fresno State.
The next day we walked back into the same gym, but this time it was now filled with close to 13,000 avid Texas Tech fans. The atmosphere was unbelievable and we were astonished at the friendliness and sportsmanship of the Texas Tech crowd. We left Texas without a victory but we went back to Fresno determined to start the New Year with a win.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Lubbock is home to Paige's mom. We were lucky enough to have a yummy dinner at her house. We also saw some cute photos of Paige when she was little and when she was in action playing basketball in high school. All the girls were very grateful for the meal, so thank you very much Gladys!!!
Back in Fresno, there was no time to rest because next up we took on the Santa Clara Broncos. We practiced through the New Year among some small celebrations to ring in 2006. And we started off 2006 with a bang and took care of the Broncos easily, winning 64-46. It was our last non-conference game and it gave us confidence going into our first WAC game at Utah State.
Last Friday we headed back to Utah, and ready to redeem the entire state after a rather dismal performance last time we played there. After a bit of a struggle, we eventually came through with a win (60-58). Nonetheless, we left Utah with a 1-0 start to conference play. Now, back at home after a much-needed rest day, we are back in practice and getting ready to take on New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech.
We hope to see you out at the Save Mart Center on Thursday and Saturday.
Go Dogs!

P.S.: During the last month, we have had a couple unique situations come up involving our shoes. These were a bit embarrassing at the time but now we can look back at them and laugh.
- On our trip to San Diego, we practiced in Fresno on Sunday morning before boarding the bus. After showering and repacking our bags we headed down to Southern California for Monday night's game. We checked into our hotel, enjoyed some down time and went through our usual dinner and relaxing night. Plenty of time to check your things - you would think so anyway!!! Sure enough, two minutes before we head out to shoot-around on gameday, Kendra suddenly realizes she has forgotten her basketball shoes. With no spare shoes on hand, Angelica very kindly let Kendra borrow her shoes for the game.
- During the trip to Texas Tech, my shoes broke and so did Paige's. Toni had the same problem with her pair a couple days later, followed by Amy's after that. Since then we have all been carrying around extra shoes when we travel just in case our shoes break again (or someone forgets them!!!) However, Paige decided she would take it to a new level and as we arrived at shoot-around on game day against Utah State, she discovered she had brought two left shoes to play in. Luckily for her she had the other matching pairs in the hotel, but it was definitely worth a laugh as she went through shoot around in her travel shoes!
