Wrestling Drops First Match On The Day To Oregon State

Fresno, Calif. - Continuing to forfeit two weights, Fresno State was also pinned in two weights on the way to a 40-4 loss in Corvallis against Oregon State. The Bulldogs got a major decision from Greg Gifford at 184 pounds, but were stopped in the remaining matches against the Beavers. The team concludes their three matches in Oregon this evening with a dual in Portland against Portland State.
Fresno State continued to work to avoid forfeits by wrestling up, but the Beavers opened the night by winning five straight matches before the Bulldogs gave away two weights at 165 and 174 pounds. Junior Greg Gifford continued to hold his own at 184 pounds, picking up a 12-4 major decision over Kyle Bressler.
Oregon State got their second pin of the night when Dan Pitsch took down Miguel Rodriguez at 197-pounds, and heavyweight Ty Watterson just outlasted a charging Cody Parker 5-4. Parker tied the match in the third period with an escape and a second stalling warning on Watterson, but Watterson had riding time to carry the match.
Fresno State continues their road trip this evening against Portland State. The Bulldogs begin their second dual of the day at 7 p.m. in Portland.
