Across The WAC
Continuing to play well at home, Fresno State has begun the WAC season with three straight wins at Bulldog Stadium. Now, with four games remaining, the Bulldogs make their way across the nation to play their first conference road game, travelling to Louisiana Tech to fave the Lady Techsters in Joe Aillet Stadium. Following that matchup, the Bulldogs have a travel day to work their way back west before facing Utah State in Logan. Fresno State with then close out the regular season with games at San Jose State and the finale against Hawai'i.
Scouting Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech started out the season very quickly, winning their first three games by a combined total of 13-2, but have since won only one game, beating Southeast Louisiana 3-2 for their only other victory. In conference play, they lost a tight match against Utah State at home and then took two losses on the road, including a 5-0 blowout against San Jose State. The team is led by Emily Cleaveland, who has made three game-winners in her five goals.
Fresno State vs. The Lady Techsters
In just their second year of soccer, Louisiana Tech has only faced the Bulldogs one time, playing in Bulldog Stadium last season. In that game, Fresno State outshot the WAC newcomers 18-2 in a 3-0 victory. Senior Kortney Lewis had two goals, and this year's leading goal-scorer Cortney Sobrero also had a goal as the Bulldogs won their first game at home last year in the shutout. Larsen had an easy time in net, saving the only shot that was put on goal.
Scouting Utah State
Utah State sits just below .500 at 6-7-1 and is right in the middle of the conference standings with four points entering Monday. Charity Weston and Erin Salmon lead the offense, each with three goals on the season. Defensively, goaltender Ali Griffin has played every minute this season, making 59 saves and allowing 14 goals for a 0.96 GAA.
Fresno State vs. The Aggies
The Bulldogs have never lost to the Aggies, holding a 2-0-1 edge in the all-time series. Fresno State had won the first two games between the teams, but neither team found the net in 2005 in a scoreless draw in Fresno last season. Fresno State held a large edge in shots at 13-5, and didn't allow a shot in the two overtime periods, but was unable to come away with the win.
Shutout Shoutout
With four games remaining in the season, the Bulldogs already have one record in the books, which is quickly increasing as the team relies on its defense for success. With a strong back line in front of her, Senior Angie Larsen has recorded 10 shutouts this season, holding the opponent scoreless in every Bulldog win this season, including two shutouts last week against Boise State and Idaho. That mark breaks the school record of eight, which was previously held by Jennifer Johnstone, a four-year starter with the Bulldogs who set the record in 1999.
