FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's golf is tied at fourth out of 17 teams after two rounds at the Heather Farr Memorial in Broomfield Colo. The 'Dogs shot a 305 and improved with a 298 in the second round to finish 27-over to tie with the host team Colorado. Denver is currently leading the tournament with 18-over while Idaho trails behind in second with 25-over.
Laura Luethke (76-72) is leading the Bulldogs tied for sixth finishing 4-over. Sophomores Jennifer Shipley (78-71) and Taylor Siebert (74-76) were close behind the leader. Shipley tied for ninth with 5-over and Siebert tied for 13th finishing 6-over. Senior Brittany Cooley shot rounds of 77 and 80 to stand tied for 52nd. In practice rounds on Sunday Cooley hit her first hole in one on the 17th hole at 144 yards with a nine iron. Pia Escandon (80-79 - 159) tied for 60th.
"After the second round we finished better." said head coach Angie Cates. "We gave a lot of shots away earlier but to finish strong after a long day you have to be in good physical shape. I am proud of them for hanging in there."
The Bulldogs will conclude the final 18 holes at the Heather Farr Memorial at the Omni Interlocken Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 3.
