Bulldogs Rally to Beat Lady Techsters

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs defeated Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon in a five game match at the Save Mart Center. The Bulldogs beat the Lady Techsters 30-26, 20-30, 27-30, 30-26, 15-8. Fresno State was led by senior outside hitter Alison Pitton and junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins who recorded 18 kills a piece. Also leading in the assist category was junior setter Tiffany Hess who served up a game high 43. Junior middle hitter Alisha McKee contributed as well connecting on 12 kills for a hitting percentage of .269.
In game one the Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-10 lead on a Lacey Gera kill. The Bulldogs looked to be in control and took a lead at 25-20 on a kill by Wiggins. Louisiana Tech would try to crawl back into the game cutting the lead by two at 28-26 on a Bulldog ball handling error and a kill by junior middle blocker Shannon Phillips. Phillips led the Lady Techsters with 18 kills on 50 team attacks for a percentage of .260. Bulldogs would prevail in game one 30-26.
Fresno State would quickly fall behind in game two at 13-7 on a kill by junior setter Jenny Denton. Denton led Louisiana Tech with 55 assists. The Lady Techsters built a bigger lead by nine at 19-10 on two consecutive kills by junior outside hitter Kristen Fairbanks and Phillips. Fairbanks had 11 kills in the match. Fresno State would lose game two 30-20.
Louisiana Tech would take the lead at 13-12 in game three on a kill by senior outside hitter Ambra Hayes. The Bulldogs built at two point lead at 19-17 on a kill by freshman middle blocker Kelly Leonardo. Fresno State would lose the lead at 24-23 on an attacking error. The Lady Techsters would win game three at 30-27.
Game four was close and neither team would pull out to lead by more than four. The Bulldogs would take a lead early at 11-10 on a kill by Pitton. Late in game four Louisiana Tech built a one point lead at 19-18 on kill by junior middle blocker Carly Dunlop. The Bulldogs would grab a 28-25 lead on a kill from Pitton, Hess and an attacking error by Louisiana Tech. Fresno State won game four 30-26.
Fresno State took control of game five at 8-5 on a kill by Leonardo. The Bulldogs would build a five point lead at 13-8 on a kill by McKee. Fresno State would beat Louisiana Tech 15-8 and win the match.
