FRESNO, Calif. - Matt Shaw is back in the Fresno State lineup as the only returning letterman for the Fresno State men's golf team. The 2005 WAC Freshman of the Year, is expected to have another strong performance his sophomore year, and with that has the added pressure on his shoulders to lead this year's new squad.
So far, so good, Shaw has already come out to a good start finishing in the top two of the Bulldogs lineup at all three tournaments this year. With some strong freshman and transfer students, Shaw and the Bulldogs will have their share of competition in the future.
Shaw, a Clovis native, enjoys the level of competition involved in college golf, which can attribute to his success thus far. With dreams of one day being a professional golfer, it looks to be a very attainable option. Shaw has been working on his game since he was in the 8th grade and continues to improve with three years remaining at Fresno State.
As a college athlete, his spare time has began to dwindle which was expected after committing to Fresno State. He chose Fresno State because of its reputation of being very competitive, along with coach Watney's abiity to produce professional players under his watch. The business program also was a big factor in his decision to attend Fresno State. Although he has yet to declare his major, he has plans to own his own business one day.
When Shaw is not playing golf or going to school, he enjoys relaxing and spending time with his family and friends. As a student-athlete, he values the amount of spare time he does get. Here is a closer look at Matt Shaw.
