Bulldogs Lose in Non-Conference Match

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State women's volleyball team lost in a three-game match to non-conference opponent Cal State Northridge Saturday night by final scores of 30-25, 30-18, 30-18. With the win, Cal State Northridge improves to 14-7 on the season, while Fresno State falls to 4-18 overall.
The Bulldogs were led by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins and freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera who tallied seven kills on the night. Junior setter Tiffany Hess would lead with 15 assists.
The Bulldogs jumped out the gate to a quick 4-2 lead in the first game on kill by Wiggins. Midway through game one Fresno State would sustain a three point lead at 15-12 on a kill by Lacey Gera. Cal State Northridge would tie the game up at 18 a piece on a solo block by sophomore middle blocker Val Kepler. After a two point run by the Matadors the Bulldogs would tie the game back up at 23-23 on a service ace by senior outside hitter Alison Pitton. Fresno State would take a timeout after Cal State Northridge would go up by four at 28-24 on a Bulldog hitting error. Bulldogs would lose game one 30-25.
The Matadors would answer the Bulldogs quick start from game one by taking a 5-1 lead in the second. Cal State Northridge would take a seven point lead at 15-8 on a kill by sophomore outside hitter Harmony Burdine. The Matdors would take an 11 point lead at 25-14 on a kill by senior opposite hitter Hilary Brinkman. In game two the Bulldogs would hit just .085 to the Matadors .325. Fresno State would lose game two 30-18.
In game three the Matadors would build an 8-4 lead but the Bulldogs looked to gain momentum on a block by Wiggins and freshman middle blocker Jamie Temperino. Cal State Northridge would start to pull away at 20-13 on a Bulldog service error. Fresno State would take a timeout at 26-16. Cal State Northridge would win game three 30-16.
Overall, Fresno State hit .053 in the match as compared to a .294 hitting percentage for Cal State Northridge.
Next up for Fresno State will be two WAC road matches at San Jose State on Thur., Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and at Nevada on Sat., Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
