FRESNO, Calif. - Marissa McPhail, a freshman from Crotton, Md., was selected the WAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
McPhail led the Bulldogs to their second team title of the season with a second-place individual finish at the San Francisco State Invitational.
McPhail was a four-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field in high school and led her team to regional championship titles in 2004 and 2005. Her sister, Dina, is also a member of the Bulldog cross country team.
It was her best finish of the season as she ran a time the 6K course in 23:07, the 10th fastest time in Bulldog history.
McPhail joined San Jose State's Mobin Ghoury, who was selected the men's athlete of the week. Ghoury, a senior from Riverside, Calif. (Rubidoux), finished 23 overall, (13th in colligate runners) at the SF State Gator Invite.
The Bulldogs have on regular season meet remaining, competing at the Cal Poly Invitational this weekend in San Luis Obispo, Cailf. Fresno State will hosted the 2006 WAC Cross Country Championships Oct. 28 at Woodward Park.
