Bulldogs Fall Short to Broncos on Senior Day

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team lost a five-game match to Boise State Saturday afternoon by scores of 30-20, 31-29, 26-30, 24-30 and 13-15.
The Bulldogs were led by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins who tallied 22 kills. Freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera contributed 16 kills and freshman middle blocker Kelly Leonardo marked the next high with 10 kills.
Game one appeared to be a battle until the Bulldogs were able to grasp an 11-10 lead. Fresno State would go on a 9-2 run and look to put the Broncos away. The Broncos would add a late scare coming within five at 25-20 but the Bulldogs would go on to record a service ace and four more kills to win game one 30-20.
In game two the Bulldogs would take a two point lead at 13-11 on a service ace from freshman middle blocker Jamie Temperino. Fresno State would lead by as many as seven at 24-17 before Boise State would stage a late comeback. The Broncos went on an 8-1 run to tie the game up at 25 a piece before a Fresno State timeout. Boise State would take a two point lead at 29-27 but the Bulldogs would prevail and score the next four points and win game two 31-29.
Boise State would take control of game three and lead 13-11. The Bulldogs would tie the game up at 17 a piece. Neither team would pull out in front until the end. Boise State taking a 27-26 lead would go on to win 30-26 as the Bulldogs recorded three attacking errors.
After winning game three, Boise State built momentum in game four jumping out to a 15-10 lead. The Broncos biggest lead would be nine at 27-18. Fresno State would not be able to make a comeback and lose game four 30-24.
Boise State would lead 9-7 but the Bulldogs would tie game five up at nine a piece after a Fresno State timeout. The Broncos would go on a 2-0 run at 13-11 but once again Fresno State tied the game up at 13 a piece. The Broncos offense would be too much as they would connect on the next two kills to win the game 15-13.
Fresno State will play away Thursday against No. 23 New Mexico State at 7 p.m. and Saturday against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in what will conclude WAC play. The Bulldogs will play in Reno, Nev. on Nov. 22 and compete in a tournament for the WAC Championship.
