FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Quinton Hosley scored 20 points and Dominic McGuire notched his first career triple-double as Fresno State defeated San Diego 68-65 on Saturday night in front of 11,552 fans at the Save Mart Center.
McGuire finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots for the Bulldogs. Hector Hernandez added 16 points and three blocks.
McGuire's triple-double is the first for a Bulldog since 1994, and it marks the first points, rebounds and blocks triple-double in school history.
San Diego had the chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but Hosley partially deflected Ross DeRogatis' 3-point attempt for Fresno State's 15th block of the game. The Bulldogs' victory ended the Toreros' seven-game winning streak.
DeRogatis led the Toreros with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Gyno Pomare added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Fresno State (11-2) trailed throughout the second half until a 7-0 spurt, capped by Eddie Miller's fast-break dunk, put the Bulldogs ahead 60-59 with 4:51 left.
DeRogatis' 3-point shooting kept San Diego (9-5) close down the stretch. The senior guard made two but had two others blocked by McGuire and Hosley.
After DeRogatis' sixth 3-pointer brought the Toreros to within 66-65 with 37.8 seconds left, Fresno State's Ja'Vance Coleman answered with consecutive free throws on the ensuing possession. Coleman had 10 of his 13 points in the second half.
Neither team scored in the final 26.2 seconds as DeRogatis and Chris Lewis both missed 3-pointers for the Toreros. Brandon Johnson added nine points and six assists for San Diego.
After a poor-shooting first half, Fresno State rebounded to shoot 54.2 percent in the second. The Bulldogs also enjoyed a 17-4 edge in free-throw attempts.
San Diego led 30-27 at halftime following an evenly played first half featuring five ties and nine lead changes. Neither team led by more than four points.
Fresno State opens Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday, January 4 when it hosts Idaho at 7 p.m. at the Save Mart Center.
