Reality Check
I'm sitting on the bus back home from our trip to Reno. This time it didn't turn out so well for our team as we dropped a tough game to Nevada. However, it might just be the factor that helps us achieve our overall goals.
To be honest, I am a very sore loser. I think it comes with being so competitive. However this season I have learned more and more that each loss comes with a lesson. Last night's lesson: Never underestimate the power of playing hard.
Bottom line was that Nevada played harder than us. It is rare for our team to be out-hustled. But that was our one game- and that one game that has taught us a long-term lesson. It will not happen again - my team and my coaches can guarantee you that.
Four games left and I wonder where we are in this competition. For all 16 players and five coaches, this is it. This is our only time together as one. There will never be another 2005-2006 Bulldog basketball team. So I look at my teammates and think about what we have together. In each and every one of them I see more than just someone I play basketball with. They are my friend, my sister, someone I can cry to, someone I can laugh with and someone I can share this amazing experience with. I look to my coaches and I see more than someone who teaches me about basketball. I see my leader, my mentor, my role model, someone to show me the right path in life, someone to help me make wise decisions and someone who is making my experience here an incredible one.
Too many times we think about winning and losing. But it's about more than that. Our lives are not a business and this is more than just a game. We are student-athletes and are here to learn about life, get a degree and enjoy the amazing college experience. Right now I couldn't ask for anything more. I have been lucky enough to be brought into a program that has been lifted off the ground by a talented and dedicated group of coaches. I have teammates that will be my friends for life and that's hard to find.
For all you great Bulldog fans out there, this is why we are the team we are. We believe in each other. We know we can do something special this season. We want to set the tone for future Bulldog teams. With four games left in the regular season we will do nothing but give you our very best on that court. We are excited to show you the best we have and take you where no Bulldog basketball team has been before.
Keep supporting our team and our coaches, we need you Fresno! Come and make history with us this season.
Next up is San Jose State at home this Wednesday at 7pm in the Save Mart Center.
