FRESNO, Calif. -- - Fresno State continues a three-week home stretch on Saturday, hosting the University of Georgia in an NCAA-style match. The Dogs are in the midst of the toughest portion of the 2005-06 schedule, which concludes with the IHSA National Championships later this spring.
Dogs Host Georgia
Fresno State will host perennial power Georgia on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Student Horse Center. It will be an English and Western meet using the NCAA format of 34 different matches featuring between riders from each team. The English Equitation and Western Horsemanship matches begin at 8 a.m. The jumping events are at 11:30 a.m. and the reining events at 2 p.m.
Malmo Moment
Quotes from head coach Becky Malmo: About last week: "The student-athletes were very prepared and focused for this competition. They gave excellent performances as every level. Our riders won first in all but one event, and we were third in that one. Two women qualified for the regional championships to be held at Stanford March 25, 2006 with several others close on their heels." About this week: "Having Georgia on our campus is very exciting. We respect their program and what they have accomplished and this is a good chance for us to showcase our program and see where we stand with one of the nation's premier programs."
Senior Day/Code Red Day
During Saturday's meet against Georgia, the Bulldogs will honor seven senior student-athletes. The event has also been designated as Fresno State's "Code Red" event, in which all Bulldog student-athletes are asked to come out and support their fellow student-athletes. The seniors that will be honored Saturday are: Kelly Ansaldo, Katie Frost, Becky LeGris, Kristin Marchesi, Stacey McCalmont, Jessica Miller, Erin Saunders and Amy Simmons.
