SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 23rd-ranked Fresno State softball team fell 5-0 to Oregon in its second game Saturday at the Aztec Classic in San Diego. The Bulldogs had beaten San Diego State 11-0 behind freshman Robin Mackin's no-hitter earlier, but were unable to stay hot with the bats. Fresno State fell to 10-9 on the year while Oregon improved to 12-8.
Freshman Merryann Barr got the start in the circle for Fresno State. In five and a third innings she allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits, walking four and striking out one. Barr took the loss, while Oregon's Melissa Rice was awarded the win.
The Bulldogs only managed four hits off of Rice while leaving five runners on base. Sophomore Amanda Nesbitt relieved Barr, allowing one run on two hits, with one walk while striking out three in one and two-thirds innings.
Oregon scored two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Oregon's Joanna Gail hit a two-run homer in the sixth.
The Bulldogs will look to avenge a 2-1 loss to Loyola Marymount when the two clubs meet again in their final game of the Aztec Classic on Sunday, Mar. 5 at 9 a.m.
