FRESNO, Calif. - Laura Luethke shot a 2-under 70 on Tuesday at the Spartan Invitational to claim her fourth collegiate tournament title and lead Fresno State (313-307 - 620) to a third-place finish.
Playing through intermittent downpours, Luethke's final round included six birdies and four bogeys. She finished with a 145 total, four strokes ahead of Selanee Henderson of UC Irvine.
"I am really proud of Laura and all that she has accomplished in this tournament. She has brought her game back," head coach Angie Cates said. "Laura never lost hope in her abilities and for her to fight back and win this tournament shows her great determination. I also think it speaks volumes about her character to push through the rough stretch and end up back on top."
Jennifer Shipley (78-75) acquired the best finish of her collegiate career by tying for eighth place with a two-round total of 153. Taylor Siebert shot rounds of 78-84 - 162 to tie for 28th, and Adrianna Chico (85-78 - 163) improved by seven strokes in the final round to finish tied for 31st. Meggie Fagundes (82-85) tied for 47th with 167.
Fresno State next competes in the UNLV Spring Invitational March 13-15 in Henderson, Nev.
