FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State (626) maintained its fourth place position Tuesday at the Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship after shooting a second-round 317. The Bulldogs are three strokes behind third-place Nevada (623) and trail second-place New Mexico State (622) by only four shots heading into Wednesday's final round at Coyote Creek Golf Course in San Jose, Calif.
Jennifer Shipley is in 10th place with rounds of 77-78 - 155. Adrianna Chico (76-80) is tied for 11th with 156. Laura Luethke is tied for 17th with 77-82 - 159.
Brittany Cooley shot 77, the lowest second round for the Bulldogs, and improved by 10 strokes to move up to 27th with 164.
"Brittany had a really good day. There were only 13 players who shot in the 70s today, and she was one of them," said head coach Angie Cates. "She played very steady and it was a great comeback after yesterday's round."
Taylor Siebert is tied for 28th with 79-86 - 165.
Host San Jose State is the team leader with a 616 total.
"We're only 10 strokes behind San Jose State," Cates said. "We're in good shape and still have a chance to win."
Tee times for the final round begin Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
