Freshman Melanie Gloria has been named Fresno State's Toyota/GoBulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for April 24. It is the second time Gloria has won the honor. Gloria led the women's tennis team to its fifth straight WAC title April 20-22. The freshman from Montreal, Canada, was completely dominant in both singles and doubles during the tournament. In singles, she went 3-0, never allowing an opponent to win more than three games in a set. In doubles, she and sophomore Jacqueline Haskett went 2-0, winning 8-2 against Boise State in the final and 8-3 against Nevada in the semifinal. Gloria and Haskett improved their doubles record to 17-1. To top off a great weekend at the WAC Championships, Gloria won just about every award a student-athlete can receive. She was named the WAC Player of the Year and the WAC Freshman of the Year. She also earned first-team All-WAC in both singles and doubles. Also nominated: Jakub Cech (Men's Tennis); Andy Underwood (Baseball); Robin Mackin (Softball); Samantha Modeste (Women's Track and Field).
