Head coach Adrian Wiggins
"I want to start off by thanking President Welty and Thomas Boeh for giving me this opportunity. It's truly an opportunity of a lifetime for me and I'm extremely excited about it. I would also like to thank all of you for coming this afternoon. It's great to see so much support for the women's basketball program from people that I work with on a daily basis. The community provided our basketball program with tremendous support throughout the last season and I am just very proud to be a part of it. I look forward to continuing to build something very special here at Fresno State."
"Before I open it up to questions, I want to personally thank my basketball players. I admire you all very much and know how much sacrifice you put into this program, so I'm sorry to be keeping you from your spring break right now."
"I am really proud knowing I get a chance to be a part of this great community. My family has fallen in love with Fresno State and I'll be at every football game, every basketball game and if I can make today's tennis match at 2:30, I'll be there too. We just love it here and are very happy to be a part of the community."
"The outpouring of support throughout this year was tremendous. It's nothing you seek out individually but it is very rewarding when it comes. Most of my day is spent trying to put our student-athletes in a better situation where they can grow as individuals and as students. The last thing I want is the attention on me but it has been quite overwhelming and I appreciate everything. Whether it be from the fans at our games or people that walk up to you on the street, the support has been tremendous."
"Recruiting is always a challenge. I think whether you are going to the Liberty Bowl or if you are 0-10, it's a challenge. There are always obstacles and what we do is address them and not avoid them. With young people, the last thing you want to do is lie to them. So we are honest with them and then bring them into the Save Mart Center and say `how about it?"
"Steve (referring to men's basketball head coach Steve Cleveland, who was a member of the hiring committee) was easy on me and he's been great. He is actually a very good example for me. I am very fortunate to be in the company of some coaches who have been here for awhile and know what they're doing such as Pat Hill, Margie Wright and coach Cleveland. Now I'm going to be able to draw from those people and that's a neat opportunity."
Junior guard Chantella Perera
"We are excited to have the coach who we think can take us to the next level. We believe Coach Wiggins is the person who is capable of bringing the best out of us and we are excited to have someone who cares about us as much as we care about them."
Senior center Jenny Thigpin
"It's a great day. It's a great day for all of us and a great day for Coach Wiggins. We are all familiar with his system and can now put it to use next year."
Senior forward Amy Parrish
"We're excited for coach Wiggins. I wish I had some more years to play. I have no doubt he is going to continue to do great things with this program."
Sophomore guard Kendra Walker-Roche
"We are all very excited about today. We can't wait for workouts to start and get right back to it. It's a great thing to know we have some stability now and no one is anxious anymore."
