Freshman Tinesta Rowe has been named the Toyota/www.gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for May 16. This is the fifth individual honor for a women's tennis player this year, in addition to the Oct. 10 selection of the doubles team of Katharina Winterhalter and Lucia Sainz. Rowe had not played singles in over a month or won a match in over two months (entered the match on a five-match losing streak), but clinched Fresno State's 4-3 upset over California in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Rowe defeated California's Jessica Shu 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 to secure the victory for the Bulldogs. The dual match score was tied at 3-3 when Rowe and Shu started the third set. Rowe served to take a 1-0 lead, then broke for a 2-0 lead and led 3-0 before eventually winning 6-2. Rowe also teamed with Magdalena Tokarska at No. 2 doubles to defeat California's team of Bojana Bobusic and Stephanie Kosano 8-6. Also nominated: Steve Susdorf (baseball), Christina Clark (softball), Zinzi Evans (women's track and field), Ryan Moore (men's track and field).
